BUFT Inaugurates Shaheed Selim Talukder Memorial Plaque in Solemn Ceremony
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) honored the legacy of Shaheed Md. Selim Talukder with the official inauguration of the Shaheed Memorial Plaque at the BUFT campus on 14 August 2025. The ceremony paid tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of the martyred hero of July 2024.
The memorial plaque was inaugurated by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the BUFT Board of Trustees. The ceremony was attended by Shaheed Selim Talukder’s father Mr. Md. Sultan Talukder, and his sister Jannatul Ferdoushi Akhi, along with university dignitaries including Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, the Treasurer, Deans, Heads of academic and administrative departments, faculty members, officers, and students.
The program highlighted BUFT’s dedication to preserving the memory of national heroes and fostering patriotism among students. Attendees paid homage through speeches, Doa, and a moment of silence, making the ceremony a dignified and memorable occasion.
BUFT Graduates Secure Prestigious Scholarships for Higher Studies in China, Sweden, and Germany
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) has proudly announced that eleven of its graduates have earned scholarships and placements at top international universities, further strengthening the institution’s reputation for academic excellence and global engagement.
Nine graduates have received full scholarships from the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to pursue postgraduate studies under BUFT’s MoU-based collaborations. A.S.M. Kibria (Textile Engineering) and Nondita Das Bristy (Fashion Design & Technology) will study at Zhejiang Science & Technology University (ZSTU), alongside Leon Afrin Mitu (Apparel Manufacturing & Technology), Miraz Hossain Hawlader (Textile Engineering), and Nazmus Sakib (Textile Engineering), who will attend under partial scholarships. Monir Khan (Knitwear Manufacturing & Technology), Rodela Zaman Mim (Fashion Design & Technology), Bayjid Khondoker (Apparel Manufacturing & Technology), and Tasnim Nadila (Apparel Manufacturing & Technology) will study at Wuhan Textile University (WTU), China.
In addition, Raid Islam Santo (Textile Engineering) has been admitted to Boras University, Sweden, and Rabby Sayed (Textile Engineering Management – Bachelor’s degree) will study at Hochschule Niederrhein University, Germany, through self-funded arrangements.
The BUFT Career Development Centre (CDC), coordinated by Admin Officer Rita Rani Das, played a vital role in guiding the candidates and managing the application process. A special meeting to honor the recipients was chaired by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the BUFT Board of Trustees, with Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ayub Nabi Khan delivering an inspiring address. The event was attended by BUFT’s deans, Mr. Malick Shamim Akhtar, Senior Coordinator of CDC-BUFT, senior officials, and faculty members.
This achievement reflects BUFT’s ongoing commitment to producing globally competitive graduates and fostering international academic partnerships that open new doors for research and higher education.
Textile Hack 2025: Prototype Bazaar Held at BUFT
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) successfully hosted Textile Hack 2025: Prototype Bazaar on Sunday, 13 July 2025, at its Multipurpose Hall. The initiative, aimed at fostering innovation and strengthening industry-academia collaboration in the textile sector, was jointly organized by Bangladesh Apparel Exchange (BAE), BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), and the University of Groningen, with proud support from the Dutch Enterprise Agency (RVO). The event showcased live prototype displays and dynamic pitching sessions by student teams, each presenting creative and sustainable solutions to contemporary challenges in the textile and apparel industry.
The event was presided over by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT), with H.E. Mr. Andre Carstens, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, serving as the Chief Guest. Other distinguished guests included Mr. Md. Moshiul Azam Shajal, Member of the BUFT Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT; Prof. Dr. Alamgir Hossain, Treasurer of BUFT; Mr. Mohammed Zahidullah, Chief Sustainability Officer of DBL; Mr. Sheikh Saifur Rahman, former General Secretary of the National Crafts Council of Bangladesh; Mr. Shohel Anwar Apu, Assistant Professor of Shanto-Mariam University; Ms. Sharmily Sarker, Head of the Department of Fashion Studies at BUFT; along with BUFT faculty members, officials, and students.
In the final round, the selected teams presented their innovative ideas before the panel of judges, followed by a prototype marketplace and networking session. In this segment, "Green Wave" from Shanto-Mariam University was crowned Champion, "Fab-Board" from Rangpur Textile Engineering College became Runner-up, and BUFT’s "Fab 5" team won the People’s Choice Award. Through this initiative, BUFT reaffirmed its commitment to playing an active role in fostering sustainable development in Bangladesh’s textile and apparel industry and nurturing young innovators.
