BUFT Honors Champions at Vibrant Prize Giving Ceremony
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) hosted a colorful Prize Giving Ceremony on 14 July 2025, at the BUFT Multipurpose Hall to honor the winners of two major sporting events - the Bijoy Dibosh Badminton Tournament 2024 and the Intra-University Swimming Competition 2025. The event was graced by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BUFT, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Muzaffar U. Siddique, Founder Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor, were present as Special Guests.
The event was attended by Deans, Department Heads, faculty members, officers, and students, creating an atmosphere of enthusiasm and celebration. The program recognized the exceptional performances of students, faculty, and staff in both badminton and swimming events, reflecting BUFT's commitment to promoting a balanced academic environment where physical activity and wellness are equally valued alongside academic excellence.
In the Bijoy Dibosh Badminton Tournament 2024, Mr. Md. Ainul Haque Rafi emerged as the Men's Singles Champion, while Ms. Shahrin Islam Suchi won the Women's Singles title. Mr. Hasan Abdullah Sanim and Mr. Ahsab Kahab Hridoy clinched the Men's Doubles trophy, and Ms. Shahrin Islam Suchi along with Ms. Lamia Afrin Rusana secured victory in the Women's Doubles. In the Mixed Doubles category, Mr. Shadman Rahman and Ms. Ainani Tajrian took the championship.
Among faculty and officers, Mr. G. M. Waesh Koroni dominated multiple categories, winning the Men's Singles, Doubles (with Mr. Md. Masudur Rahman), and Mixed Doubles (with Ms. Umme Sumaiya). Ms. Moni Jafar Pingki triumphed in the Women's Singles category. In the Above 50 category, Prof. Dr. Md. Alamgir Hossain, and Prof. Dr. Md. Sanaullah claimed the Men's Doubles title, while Prof. Hossain also secured the Singles championship.
The Intra-University Swimming Competition 2025 featured remarkable performances as well. Among students, Md. Rejaul Islam Hero secured first place in the Men's Freestyle event, while Methila Chonom claimed the Women's Freestyle title. Shakib Ahmmad excelled in the Men's Breaststroke event. In the Men's 4×15m Relay, the team comprising Palash Sutra Dhar, Md. Siam Khan, Kowser Bhuiyan, and Md. Sanjit Sarker emerged victorious.
Faculty and officers also showcased their athletic prowess. Mr. Md. Moniruzzaman took the top position in the Men's Freestyle, while Ms. Urmila Mukhtar Jeny won the Women's Freestyle and Breaststroke categories. Mr. Md. Raijul Islam stood out in the Men's Breaststroke event.
The vibrant event concluded with the distribution of trophies and certificates amid loud applause and appreciation. It was a proud occasion that not only celebrated individual victories but also BUFT's enduring commitment to fostering sportsmanship, unity, and holistic development among its community.
BUFT and GarmentTechBD Sign MoU to Boost Industry-Academia Partnership
BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and the Academy of Garments Technology Bangladesh (GarmentTechBD) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 10 July 2025 to enhance collaboration in research, capacity building, and professional development. The agreement focuses on organizing BD Case Competitions, workshops, certified courses, internships, and international events to bridge academic and industry needs. BUFT students will enjoy free access to GarmentTechBD's resources, including memberships, training, and publishing opportunities.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman, Board of Trustees, BUFT, and Dr. Henry Soo, Strategic Partner, GarmentTechBD. Representing BUFT at the ceremony were Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor; Prof. Dr. Alamgir Hossain, Treasurer; and Prof. Dr. Engr. Mohammed Rubaiyat Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Apparel Studies. From GarmentTechBD, Mr. Abdus Salam, Adviser, and Mr. Md. Panna Rahman, Project Leader, were also in attendance. The three-year partnership marks a step forward in aligning education with the evolving demands of the fashion and garments sector.

BUFT Chairman Graces BGWTF 14th Get-Together as Chief Guest
The Bangladesh Garments Washing Technologists Foundation (BGWTF) celebrated its 14th Grand Get-Together on 2 May 2025 at KG Eco Resort in Savar, bringing together leading industry professionals and members from the garment washing sector.
Mr. Faruque Hassan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of BGMEA University of Fashion & Technology (BUFT) and former BGMEA President, attended the day-long event as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the challenges in the RMG sector, including energy shortages and post-LDC graduation hurdles, and stressed the need for innovation and collaboration to stay competitive. Prof. Dr. Engr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Acting Vice Chancellor of BUFT, was present as the Special Guest, further strengthening BUFT’s engagement with industry stakeholders.
Organized by BGWTF President Md. Abdus Samad and moderated by General Secretary Engr. Mahasinuzzaman Shishir, the event also featured other distinguished guests and recognized top-performing washing units with development awards. The vibrant gathering included cultural activities, a fashion show, and discussions on industry advancement, reflecting BGWTF's commitment to professional development and social welfare.
